Volunteering

Volunteers are the backbone of the Glacier Aquatic Club. As a non-profit, we rely on the generous participation of our families to run successful meets and keep our team swimming.

It's also incredibly rewarding! Being on deck gets you closer to the action and builds our community.

Referees & Stroke Judges. Ensure fair competition. This role is critical for our meets.

We cover the cost! GAC pays for training, background checks, and USA Swimming membership.

🟢 Entry Level (No Training Needed)

Timers

Two timers per lane. You operate a stopwatch and a "pickle" (button). It provides backup for the electronic system. Best seat in the house!

Runners (General)

Collects result slips from the timers and brings them to the computer table. You keep the data moving.

Concessions Sales

Sells snacks and drinks. Helps coordinate grocery runs. Checks hospitality supplies and restocks as needed.

Parking Lot Attendant

(Whitefish Meets) Directs parking flow to the Credit Union lot or upper back lot.

New Parent Coordinator

The "Go-To" person for questions. Wears a safety vest for visibility. Attends the New Parent Meeting.

Meet Set-Up / Clean-Up

Set-Up: Unloading, setting up concessions, placing tarps.
Clean-Up: Teardown, trash removal, vacuuming. Must be able to carry tables/chairs.

🛡️ Safety & Athlete Supervision

Safety Marshal

(1 Male, 1 Female) We need one of each gender to safely monitor both locker rooms. Responsible for overall venue safety and enforcing Safe Sport rules.

Stagers

1 per two lanes. Organizes kids behind the blocks 3 heats in advance.

Locker Room Runner

Monitors locker rooms (no phone use, no horseplay). Checks staging areas for loose tennis balls.

🎓 Trained Roles (Experience Required)

Computer & Console Manager

Runs the meet software. NOT for untrained volunteers. Must shadow for multiple meets first.

Head Timer

Coordinates all timers. Carries spare watches to swap in if a timer's watch fails. Runs timer meeting.

Meet Announcer

The "Voice of the Meet." Announces events, plays music, and calls winners. Script provided.

Concessions Manager

Oversees concessions: selecting items, pricing, stocking, setup, and managing volunteer shifts.
